Whiskey Sours

by | Dessert, Drinks

Sours is simple syrup and citrus juice. Lemon, lime and optionally orange juice (in that order).

The ratio is around 1.5 times juice to syrup – (give or take to taste). Simple syrup is equal parts water and sugar brought to the boil so it’s clear.

Traditional:

  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup lime juice
  • 1 cup simple syrup

My recipe:

  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup lime juice
  • 1/4 cup grapefruit
  • 3/4 cup simple syrup

If I’m making a lot I’ll buy a bag of lemons and a bag of limes from costco and 2 grapefruits (I prefer grapefruit to orange for this).

To make the actual cocktail
Equal parts whiskey to the sours you make with lots of ice. Crushed ice brings things closer to a Margarita (better for summer), you can garnish with a Maraschino cherry too.
